Useful Information

Congress Venue

The ISFNR 19th Congress is scheduled to take place in Riga from June 17 to June 21, 2024. As you plan your transportation and accommodation, please take note of the following details:

Getting from Riga Airport to Riga Centre

Foreign travelers primarily use air transportation to reach Riga. Riga International Airport (RIX) is the largest airport in the Baltic States and provides direct connections from major European destinations, cities in Central Asia and the Middle East. To get to the city centre from Riga Airport, you can use public bus or taxi.

Bus No. 22 takes you from the airport to the city centre. The bus stop is located in the P1 car park between airport arrival exits E and C. The bus from/to Riga Airport to the city centre takes about 30 minutes, the bus frequency is 10–30 minutes (see the timetable here). A regular ticket for one trip can be bought from the bus driver (1.81 EUR). Note that this is the only public bus route where the ticket can be bought from the bus driver. You can pay for the ticket with a bank payment card only . You can buy the bus ticket before commencing your trip in a ticket vending machine at the stop of Bus 22 or in Narvesen press kiosk at Level 1 and 2 of the terminal (1.50 EUR). Bus 22 stops include Nacionālā bibliotēka 'National Library' (congress venue on the first day; get off here if you are staying at Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel), 11. novembra krastmala (get off here if you are staying at Wellton Riverside SPA Hotel or any of the Old Town hotels), and Autoosta 'Bus Station' (another option for getting off if you are staying at any of the hotels in Riga Old Town). Explore the routemap of Bus 22 to determine which bus stop is closest to your hotel!

Taxi can be hired only on the carriageway which is located immediately at the airport exit from the arrivals hall. A taxi ride to the city centre takes an average of 20 minutes. Rates offered by taxi service providers for a ride to the city centre may vary. Therefore, before getting into a taxi, we advise you to find out the fare you can expect to pay for the journey. Taxi drivers are obliged to provide you with clear and precise information about the rates according to which the fare will be calculated and about any extra charge for an additional service provided separately from the transport service.

Getting around Riga

Riga has three methods of public transportation – tram, trolleybus and bus. Public transport operates between 5:30 and 23:30. For more information about public transportation in Riga, please refer to the Rīgas satiksme website:

Alternatively, you can use any bus or tram heading away from Riga city centre that stops at the Nacionālā bibliotēka stop, from which it is a 9-minute walk to the House of Nature. For convenient planning of your movement on foot or by public transport, we recommend using the Google Maps application.

Accommodation

Riga offers a plenty of accommodation options. The majority of them are concentrated in the historic centre of Riga, located on the right bank of the Daugava River. Check booking.com or other websites to choose the one that best suits your preferences. Note that the congress venue is located on the opposite bank of the Daugava. The historic centre of Riga and the congress venue are connected by a bridge, which can be crossed on foot or by using public transportation or taxi.

For your convenience, we have secured special rates at two distinguished hotels, both within walking distance of the congress venue:

Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel****

Wellton Riverside SPA Hotel****

To take advantage of the reduced prices, please make your reservations through the official websites of the respective hotels. During the booking process, you will have the opportunity to apply a PROMO code, ensuring you receive the discount.
